It smells good, it tastes good, it looks pretty, but it’s not in season, come on🌷

Imagine it is February 14th, Valentine’s Day (hello to everyone without a Valentine and to everyone whose name is Valentine). You want to do something nice for your sweetheart. You go to Elizabeth, the neighborhood florist, next to Bob, the butcher at the bottom of the street, and you think, “Well well well, that little bouquet of red roses… Alright, into the basket.” Elizabeth rings you up and you head home.

Horror. Disaster. You forgot one tiny detail… it is not rose season. And by the way, the tomatoes you bought on your way home are not in season either. You see where we are going with this. No tomato mozzarella salad tonight. Yes, that is already an issue, but not the only one. We do not love leeks either, but it is still essential to eat fruit, vegetables, and flowers that are in season.

So now you must be thinking, “That is all very nice, but what do I buy instead of roses?” No, not leeks, stay focused. There are plenty of lovely flowers in February: tulips, mimosas, or ranunculus (not a very sexy flower name, we agree, but they are beautiful, a bit like the word « ratatouille », which does not sound appealing but tastes good). So ask yourself the real question: is it in season or not.
And on top of that, it is very easy to find the information on the World Wide Web.

But let us get back to our tomatoes. We know they are delicious, but not in winter. So please avoid buying clementines in August or strawberries in November. We can send you to a great website that lists seasonal fruit and vegetables so you do not have to worry about it:

(There are many others, but listing them all was long and we had incredible articles to write.)

And now you are thinking, “Why are these two bothering me? What is the point?”
The point is to eat better quality products because, surprise, it is the right season. And it also helps avoid damaging whole harvests by picking or gathering things before they are ready.
It also helps you avoid buying products that come from the other side of the world, after a fifteen hour flight with a stopover in Peru before ending up on your plate. Because in the end, it is just like what Gab told you about your clothes: it is a bit sad if your plate travels more than you do.

Alright, kisses, and enjoy your leek pie.
